Make Remotion videos with Claude Code

Use the Claude Code subscription you already pay for to build Remotion videos in Remocn Studio: install, sign in, first prompt, notes and export.

Remocn Studio is a free macOS app that turns Claude Code into a video studio. You describe the video, Claude Code writes it as a real Remotion project in a folder on your disk, and you watch the live preview change while it works. You need no API key and pay no separate token bill: Studio runs the claude command-line tool on your Mac, signed in with your own subscription.

What you need

  • A Mac running macOS 13 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel.
  • Claude Code installed and signed in on that Mac. Signing in to Claude Desktop doesn't count; the command-line tool has to be signed in itself.
  • Remocn Studio. It's free, and every feature is included.

You don't need to know Remotion or React. The code is there when you want it, and you never have to open it.

Steps

  1. Download Remocn Studio from the download page and open it. macOS asks once whether to open an app from the internet; confirm it.

  2. Sign Claude Code in, if you haven't yet:

    claude auth login

Studio checks this on its own. If Claude Code is missing or signed out, the environment card above the composer says which, shows the exact command and can open a Terminal window for you to paste it into. You can also check it in Settings › AI Accounts.

  3. Click New project, give it a name, pick a folder and an aspect ratio (wide, vertical or square), and press Create. Studio scaffolds a Remotion project there and opens a chat on its first video.

  4. In the Model menu, pick a model under Claude. Claude Code is the default for every new chat. Leave it on Default to let Claude Code choose.

  5. Pick a mode: Accept edits to let the agent change files inside the project without asking, Plan to approve a plan first, or Auto. In every mode, a shell command or any path outside the project asks for your permission first.

  6. Describe the video, and attach your logo, screenshots or screen recordings right in the message:

A 30-second launch video for Tasklane, a shared task inbox for small teams. Use the two attached recordings as proof, one shot each. Calm and confident, no voiceover. End on the logo and "Available today".

  7. Let it work. Claude Code goes through seven stages: analysis, brand, script, motion, build, choreography and review. It writes a document into your project at each one (analysis.md, script.md and so on), so you can read, edit or overrule any decision. If you read only one, read script.md: cutting a shot there takes one sentence.

  8. Give notes on the preview the way a director would:

    • Type it: "The second shot is too fast."
    • Point at it: click an element. Playback pauses and the properties pane opens, so you can change the text, size, tracking or easing directly. The change is saved into the code.
    • Frame it: drag a Snapshot box over the frame, and the crop goes into the chat as a picture.
  9. Open Export and pick a preset (YouTube, Shorts · Reels · TikTok, Instagram Feed), or set MP4, WebM, GIF or ProRes up to 4K yourself. The video renders through the project's own Remotion.

The project stays a normal Remotion project. Open it in your editor, commit it to git, or render it with npx remotion render without Studio.

Without Studio: Claude Code in the terminal

If you'd rather stay in the terminal, the remocn plugin gives Claude Code the same component library and a video workflow:

claude plugin marketplace add Remocn/remocn
claude plugin install remocn@remocn

Then run /remocn:video with a one-line brief. The plugin plans a storyboard, waits for your go-ahead, writes the video and renders stills to check it. When you want a live preview and visual notes, /remocn:studio opens the same project in Remocn Studio.

If it doesn't work

The composer is locked and says Claude isn't signed in

Claude Code on this Mac is signed out. Run claude auth login in a terminal, sign in with the account that has your subscription, and come back to Studio. It rechecks when the window regains focus, and the composer unlocks by itself.

Claude isn't listed, or says "not installed"

Studio uses the claude tool you installed and never bundles or updates its own. Install Claude Code from its setup page, then recheck in Settings › AI Accounts.

A turn fails because the model isn't available

Claude Code refused the chosen model, and Studio shows Claude Code's own message. Your plan may not include that model, or the model may need a newer version of Claude Code than you have. Pick Default in the Model menu, or update Claude Code.

The preview stays blank

Look at the environment card above the composer. It lists whatever is wrong, such as missing dependencies or no composition to show, and offers a fix where there is one. When every check passes, the card disappears.

The agent keeps asking for permission

Those are the permission cards, and they're on purpose. File edits inside your project run without asking, but a shell command or a path outside the project always asks first, and no mode skips them.
