A launch video for Product Hunt and X in one evening

What to prepare in ten minutes, which of the seven stages to read, and how to export for every platform you launch on.

Launch day has a checklist, and the video is the item that keeps slipping. An agency needs weeks. After Effects needs skills you don't have. AI generators give you a clip where your logo melts into the background.

Here's how to make one in an evening with Remocn Studio, and where your attention actually matters.

Before you open the app

Spend ten minutes on four things. They decide more about the video than any animation will.

  1. The promise, in one sentence. Not the feature list. "Ship a launch video without opening After Effects" is a promise. "AI-powered motion design platform" isn't.
  2. Two or three proofs. A screen, an action, a result. A launch video that only says things is a slideshow. One that shows the product doing something is a demo.
  3. Your brand. Logo, colors, fonts, or a DESIGN.md.
  4. Optional: one reference. A launch video you'd like yours to feel like. One, not five.

The first prompt

Create a project and set the brand in Settings › Project › Brand, or import your DESIGN.md. Then describe the video:

A 30-second launch video for [product], for indie developers. The promise: [one sentence]. Use the three attached recordings as the proof, one shot each. Calm and confident, no voiceover. End on the logo and "Available today".

Attach the recordings and screenshots right in the message. If you have a reference video, attach it too.

Seven stages, and where to step in

Studio doesn't drop your prompt into a box and hope. The agent works through seven stages and writes a document into your project at each one. You can read, edit or overrule any of them.

StageWhat it leaves behindWhat to check
Analysisanalysis.mdDid it get the audience and the promise right?
Brandbrand.md, your logos copied unchangedColors and fonts
Scriptscript.mdEvery shot, its message, its timing
Motionmotion.mdWhich component plays which shot
BuildThe scenesThe live preview
Choreographychoreography.mdRhythm and reading time
Reviewreview.mdEvery note closed with evidence

If you read only one, read script.md. It's the cheapest place to change your mind. Cutting a shot there is one sentence. Cutting it after the build is another round.

No reference? Pick a direction

Without a reference, the agent picks a direction from your brief. You can steer it by naming one of the templates that ship with remocn:

  • Release teaser. Short statements and a reveal. Good for "it's here".
  • Product showcase. Screens and images at changing scale. Good for products with a lot to show.
  • Workflow console. A request, its execution, the evidence. Good for developer tools.
  • Order flow. One action, followed into its changed state. Good for a single sharp interaction.

"Use the release teaser as the base" is enough.

Notes on the preview

Watch the take, then give notes like a director:

  • Type it. "The second shot is too fast."
  • Point at it. Click an element. Playback pauses and the properties pane opens. Change the text, size, tracking or easing directly, and the value is written into the code.
  • Frame it. Drag a Snapshot box over the frame and say what's wrong with that spot.

Before it calls a video done, the agent runs a design check: it renders frames and measures them for clipped text, overlaps, contrast and timing, then fixes what it finds. It doesn't replace your eye, but it catches what's easy to miss at full speed.

Export for each platform

Open Export and pick a preset. YouTube gives you a 1080p H.264 file, which is what X and most places want. For Reels, Shorts and TikTok, make a second video in 9:16 in the same project and ask for the same story re-staged vertically. A preset never changes the video's shape; it warns you when the shape doesn't match.

Need more control? MP4, WebM, GIF and ProRes are all there, up to 4K. ProRes is the one to send if someone will finish the video in an editor.

For Product Hunt: the gallery has taken video as a YouTube link, so upload your export there first. Check the current submission form before launch day, not on it.

What you end up with

Not just an mp4. A Remotion project in a folder: the scenes as readable code, the documents from every stage, your brand files. When you ship the next feature, you don't start from zero. Open the same project and ask for a new video that reuses the intro and the end card.
